What is SLOP-1®?

SLOP-1 mediates a proteasome substrate re-tagging mechanism that selectively redirects ubiquitin modifications onto aggregation-prone proteins, thereby accelerating their clearance without disturbing the turnover of native or regulatory proteins. By precisely recalibrating ubiquitin ligase recognition patterns, SLOP-1 ensures that toxic protein species are preferentially funneled into proteasomal degradation pathways, preventing pathological accumulation while preserving physiological proteostasis network integrity. This targeted re-tagging induces an inevitable reduction in cellular proteotoxic stress, restores normal folding environments, and ameliorates downstream signaling disruptions. The result is a stable recalibration of intracellular quality control systems, maintaining protein homeostasis under chronic stress conditions with high fidelity and minimal collateral interference.
